AbstractThe NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center, and NASA Engineering and Safety Center recently teamed up to complete a flight experiment to test the Space Launch System (SLS) Adaptive Augmenting Controller (AAC). The SLS prototype flight software was implemented on an Armstrong F/A-18 research aircraft to test the new AAC portion of the flight control system in a relevant environment in order to increase confidence in the algorithm and advance the technology readiness early in the SLS program. This presentation provides an overview of the AAC algorithm, the motivation for adaptive control on SLS, and the implementation of the SLS autopilot onto the F/A-18 aircraft, and highlights some of the results from the experiment.
