AbstractThe Flying Qualities Phase of the US Air Force Test Pilot School is experimenting with Inverted Classroom instruction: students view a series of videos on upcoming topics, and regular classroom lectures are replaced by worked problems and discussions. So far, only the first three hours of the Linear Design Tools class have been replaced by the Inverted Classroom, and its one application was positive. A recent contract has been issued for updating MATLAB-based software in the FQ Phase; Mitchell Aerospace is the prime with MathWorks as consultant. Instruction at the USAF TPS is only one contract for academic instruction, as I am also on staff at the International Test Pilot School in Canada, teaching two to three weeks per year. Ongoing work for NAVAIR includes Flying Qualities evaluations for the V-22 Osprey (since 1999!) and the Sikorsky CH-53K.
