Abstract

The Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics department has six faculty in the systems and controls area.
Dr. Peter Seiler is a new faculty who joined the department this fall. He works in the area of analysis and control of nonlinear system, fault detection and isolation and control of wind turbines.

Balas is currently involved in research on aeroservoelastic control of aircraft with Tao Systems and NASA Dryden, development of nonlinear analysis techniques for aerospace vehicles, development of fault detection algorithms for low cost, safety-critical systems supported by NSF, modeling and control of supercavitating vehicles supported by ONR, and control of wind turbines supported by IREE. The Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics department has also developed a small UAV laboratory and flight test platform for testing of guidance, navigation and control algorithms. An undergraduate course on Design, Model, Simulate, Control, Fly for UAVs has been developed and successfully offered twice.
