AbstractAbstract: Development of Control Laws for Antares Stage 1 TVC System

Orbital's Antares medium-class-payload booster is being developed to support upcoming ISS re-supply missions starting in 2012. This presentation begins with background information on the ISS-resupply launch vehicle and spacecraft, then provides a discussion of design tradeoffs and testing which were pursued during the Stage 1 thrust-vector control (TVC) system design and control law development. The final TVC control law was developed using a parameter-optimization strategy, guided by existing classical-control design strategies for hydraulic actuators.
