AbstractMitchell Aerospace Research Spring 2013
Work has been slow since the beginning of the year, as budget concerns in the DoD have made funding scarce. V-22 support will continue to focus on flying qualities issues and development of a FQ report for the aircraft. CH-53K support will be devoted to test planning for the first few flights, when the helicopter will fly with all AFCS modes off (“stick to head” mode). A two-year contract has been signed with the International Test Pilot School in Canada, to provide a three-week flight control systems design course combining academics, the school’s fixed-base simulator, the moving-base simulator at the University of Toronto, and eventually flight testing on the Canadian National Research Council’s variable-stability helicopter. Course improvement for the USAF Test Pilot School’s academics in the Flying Qualities Phase is wrapping up, and the focus is moving to flight training. Our intent is to better coordinate the topics in the flight training with the new academics modules.
