Abstract

This presentation summarizes two papers dealing with human pilot modeling techniques. The first discusses utilization of the Optimal Control Model of the Human Pilot in the prediction of aircraft handling qualities and performance. The second demonstrates a means for modeling pilot cross-coupling control behavior in tracking tasks. Here, “cross-coupling” refers, for example, to the rotorcraft pilot using pedal inputs when main-rotor collective inputs are used in height regulation tasks (to compensate for the power reduction to the tail rotor collective). In each presentation, some effort is expended in discussing how the reported research was extended by the author and other researchers.
