AbstractThis presentation summarizes work done under the FAA CLEEN program. Three tasks are described: FMS (Flight Management System) technologies, FMS-ATM (Air Traffic Management) integration technologies, and FMS-Engine integration technologies. The common theme is to leverage state awareness – awareness of aircraft state, awareness of flight and environmental conditions, and awareness of engine health. Another feature is better communication between the systems involved – ATM, FMS, and Engine. This information is used to improve control actions in real time with the goal of reducing fuel burn by 1% to 3% for a typical commercial aircraft. Specific topics include wind input optimization, enhanced noise abatement climb, trajectory synchronization, trajectory optimization, adaptive engine control, integrated vehicle health management, and integrated flight and propulsion control.
