AbstractThis talk presents Air Force Research Laboratory views on the application of autonomy technologies to manned/unmanned teaming concepts in air vehicles. The focus will be on USAF goals for manned/unmanned teaming, the requirements for making the concept useful in an operational setting, and the technology challenges associated with those requirements. A high level description of the “Autonomous Reliable Teammate Technologies” program is included, although no programmatic details are discussed. Key goals that are discussed include: safe operations in close proximity to manned aircraft, autonomous adaptation to unplanned events and mission contingencies, integration into the mission planning and debrief cycle, pilot workload, operations in A2AD environments, and reusability of autonomy software.
