AbstractProject I-PROBE – Integrated Precision Refueling On Board Enhancement is a research project that showed that hose drogue oscillations in response to turbulence could be damped and improved with the use of Integrated Direct Lift Control on the tanker to observe drogue oscillations and provide commands to the IDLC to move the tanker vertically to ultimately damp hose movements. In addition, changes to the receiver aircraft were made to have a specific refueling mode tied to flight path command (both rate and delta flight path) with IDLC. Both changes to the tanker and receiver aircraft show significant improvements in the aerial refueling task.
