AbstractA whole new class of jet-powered airplanes is poised to enter the general and commercial aviation marketplace. The development of small turbofan engines and glass cockpits has spurred the progress of these Light (or Personal) Jets. GDAIS is interested in these aircraft for their Upset Recovery Training (URT) Program. Both new and old airframe manufacturers alike are conducting prototype development and FAA certification programs. This presentation takes a “thumbnail” look at eight Light Jets currently under development. A brief summary of the FAA certification basis, gross weight, cruise speed, ceiling, primary flight controls, engines, and avionics of each jet is presented. The airplanes discussed are:

• Cessna Mustang
• Aviation Technology Group (ATG) Javelin
• Adam Aircraft 700
• Diamond D-Jet
• Eclipse 500
• Sino Swearingen SJ-30-2
• Avocet ProJet
• Aerostar FJ-100
