AbstractTPS Canada and Amazilia Aerospace (ITPS/AAG) have teamed to design and build a configurable, variable stability L39. Flight test is a highly dynamic environment, with evolving technologies being introduced with every aircraft iteration. ITPS/AAG have identified the need to present its students with a configurable aircraft where many aspects of classic and future flight test training can be exposed in a time efficient manner, ranging from transport category to fighter aircraft characteristics and flying qualities. The variable stability L39 will be able to be configured with user defined closed loop control laws, including a model following mode for customer provided flight dynamics models. The fly-by-wire channels include pitch, roll, yaw and thrust, and the system will be able to be flown all the way to touch down. This presentation is an overview of the project and a quick status update.
