AbstractIn response to a request from the NASA Office of the Chief Technologist, the NRC is performing a decadal-class study of NASA technology development roadmaps. The goals of the study are to review 14 NASA roadmaps addressing spaceflight capabilities, to identify important technology gaps in the roadmaps, and to prioritize applicable technology development investments over the next 10-20 years. Considerations in the technology development prioritization beyond relevance to NASA missions will include additional benefits to the nations and society. The process provides paths for public input to the process that include: A web site that provides a path to input comments on roadmap technologies and to identify important missing technologies; attendance at a series of workshops that will include presentations by leading experts on some of the technologies under review. A report on the findings from the review will be provided to NASA no later than January 2012.
