AbstractAurora Abstract
Jim Paduano

Aurora Flight Sciences has been firing on all cylinders in all of its major business areas. In Aerostructures over the past year, Aurora provided large-scale precision aerospace composites for BAMS and CH-53K, delivered the HALE wing of Boeing’s Phantom Eye, and signed a new contract with Sikorsky to build the S-97 RAIDER airframe. The Tactical Systems group has also been very busy: development, flight test, and sale of the Centaur Optionally Piloted Aircraft (OPA), based on the Diamond DA-42MPP, continues apace; and the Orion Medium Altitude Global ISR and Communications (MAGIC) platform is progressing toward first flight with funding from Big Safari. At the R&D Center in Cambridge, the Skate Small UAS has reached a high level of readiness, with demonstrations and interactions with a number of military customers interested in a truly man-packable, vertical take-off and landing asset which can support various special forces-type concepts of operation. Aurora’s RDC has also been busy with a large array of SBIR contracts, task orders (MaTeR), and major programs such as the DARPA F6 program.
