AbstractWithin DLR’s activities in the Aeronautic Programme the fixed wing Aircraft Research program plays an important role. The Aircraft Research (LAR) program has its focus on three general, medium-term objectives
- Continuous improvement of existing aircraft
- Design of new aircraft or aircraft families
- Conception of new aircraft configurations
All research considers the implicit targets
- Minimize the environmental impact of current and future aircraft
- Reduce their development, production and operational costs
- Improve safety
The LAR program has 7 sub programs. The “Fight Dynamics and Simulation” Department of DLR Institute of Flight Systems is mainly involved in the activities of the sub program “Systems and Cabin” and “Specialized Military Technologies”. This presentation will focus on the civil research activities of the Department. The respective sub program “Systems and Cabin” consists of 5 Research Schemes
- Flight Control and Flight Dynamics
- Landing Gear Dynamics and Dynamic Loads
- On-Board Power Generation
- Intelligent Monitoring and Managing of Unexpected Events
- Cabin and Cargo
and the 2 Research Projects
- Weather and Flying
- Comfortable and Silent Cabin
in which the harmonized work of various institutes are clustered. It should be noted that the research scheme “Flight Control and Flight Dynamics” also includes military related research activities. The “Intelligent Monitoring and Managing of Unexpected Events” IMMUNE project is a Common Research Project (CRP) carried out together with the French research establishment ONERA.
The current status of a few selected civil research activities
- Fault Tolerant Control
- HQ Assessment and Controller Design for a Flying Wing Configuration
- Flight Deck Automation
- Steerable Main Landing Gear and Crosswind Landing Assistance System
- Weather and Flying (Aircraft Part of the Project)
is introduced in this presentation.
